In the book, Winston works at the Ministry of Truth of the ruling state and his job is to edit old newspapers to match the current versions of the party's events. The ruling party is constantly rewriting history so people can never argue against the official version of reality. It kinda reminds me of Chomsky's manufacturing consent - that in modern democracies, the mass media doesn't always tell outright lies like in dictatorships but instead filters what information gets highlighted, what gets buried, and how stories are framed.

hey, this is the first post on this app. I read it back in April last year. This is the first book that came to my mind.
